Several interests require skill, and above all else, several hours of rigorous practice to achieve mastery. Yet, one of the most satisfying hobbies only require a needle, a bundle of felt, and an open mind. Anyone can easily become a felting virtuoso simply upon obtaining a kit and the proper guidance.
Needle felting is a craft in which one simply has to poke at a bundle of wool fibers with a specialized needle that has a barb on the end. Unlike sewing, knitting, or crocheting, hardly any technique is used and a basic shape can be accomplished by poking the wool into formation. With an hour or two of dedicated of poking, a small fuzzy figure can be created and can have physical features felted on. The more that a bundle is poked, the more strong foundation the figure will obtain and with enough detail, the clump of fibers can become a masterpiece! The beauty of needle felting is that no other materials, such as glue, are required, and as amazing as it may seem, nearly any shape can be easily achieved. Furthermore, no prior skill is required; you can just felt your way into the wonderful craft. Personally, last week, I started needle felting as an introductory bridge to sewing and crochet, both which I considered starting. Immediately, there was something I found immensely enjoyable and satisfying in the skill, and after two and a half hours, I was pleasantly surprised with the final product. So for anyone who wishes to learn a simple yet rewarding skill, needle felting may be an ideal activity for you.
Although the process of needle felting is simple, it can be a lengthy process which can take hours depending on the design. However, it's about the journey, and the more time spent on the project, most likely, the better the project will turn out. Furthermore, the process is extremely satisfying and can provide a long relaxing break. So as you begin needle felting, consider your weekend booked.
